Blog Post #1

My name is Sebastian Witt, I am twelve years old, and I am participating in a service trip to Nicaragua with a non-profit organization called Children's Global Alliance(CGA). Mainly, I chose to apply for CGA because I realize that I am very fortunate to live where I do and have the privileges that I do, and that makes it important to me to help others who are not as fortunate as I am. More specifically, I chose to apply for Nicaragua because we will be helping children with special needs at a school. This is important to me because my mom lost her leg to cancer over 20 years ago, so the fact that these kids have disabilities is personal. Also, with this being my first year on one of these trips, I am pretty nervous and it makes me feel better that the Nicaragua trip is only nine days long.
Outside of CGA, I like to build robotics and puzzles, practice Tae Kwon Do, and ski. The sports I play are football, lacrosse, karate, and wrestling. In my family, I have my mom, who is a physical therapist with her own business, my dad, who just happily started his first year of teaching 5th grade, my oldest brother Ben, who is a Plebe(freshman) at the United States Naval Academy, and my other brother David, who is a junior in high school and the starting running back and safety on the JV football team(he is also the student mentor in my group in CGA). Last but not least, a very important part of my family is my seven year old blue healer/australian shepherd/every other breed dog named Kayenta who is, in my opinion, the best dog in the world. I am very excited for this trip and the whole experience and anxious to see how it will change me as a person.
